Cost guide
Ceiling height, trim detail and repairs move the number far more than floor area does.
Two rooms of the same size can price very differently. Floor area is the least useful number in the room.
| Room | Typical Houston range |
|---|---|
| Bedroom, walls only | $300 – $700 |
| Bedroom with ceiling and trim | $500 – $1,100 |
| Bathroom | $250 – $600 |
| Kitchen, excluding cabinets | $400 – $900 |
| Living or family room | $500 – $1,200 |
| Two-storey entry or stairwell | $700 – $1,600 |
| Whole-home interior | $2,500 – $7,000 |
Kitchens have the least open wall and the most cutting: around cabinets, backsplash, appliances and trim. Bathrooms are small but slow, with fixtures to mask and moisture-tolerant products. Stairwells and entries are priced on access, not area.
Protection of floors and furniture, filling and sanding, caulking where trim meets wall, spot-priming bare or patched areas, two finish coats where needed, and a walkthrough at the end. See interior painting for the service itself, or the wider house painting cost guide.
It adds material and time, and it is far cheaper done at the same visit than as a separate job later. Water-stained ceilings need sealing first, which is the part people forget to budget for.
It helps. An empty or largely cleared room is quicker to protect and quicker to work in. We will still cover and protect whatever stays.
Two is normal. One can be enough refreshing the same colour on sound walls; a big colour change over a dark wall often needs primer plus two.
